Welcome. My name is Chris and I'm a Graphic Designer.

I worked in the printing industry in non-production capacities from 1987 to 1995. In 1995 I returned to school to learn graphic design and production for print. I worked as a graphic designer and pre-press operator for a printing company for three years (1998-2002) where my duties included designing various materials including tribute books, catalogues, stationary, newsletters and business cards for clients, outputting press-ready files, generating and proofing separations and film and troubleshooting customer files.

In 2001, after being laid-off due to a business slow-down, I chose to do freelance work which allowed me to be a stay-at-home dad to my then one year old son, Matthew (now nine), and later, Michael (who's now six years old).

For the past three years I have been sole proprietor of a small design business, handling every aspect of the business from graphic design and customer service to print coordination and billing. I am currently doing the design, typesetting and layout for a “little” poetry magazine, MILK, as a personal project.

I have expertise in Quark XPress, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat and near expertise in Adobe Photoshop. I’ve been using Adobe InDesign rather than Quark for the last few months, in order to learn what seems to be becoming the industry standard, and have made good progress since its functions are essentially the same as Quark. I would rate myself as proficient (and learning quickly) at this point. I have advanced skills in copyfitting and typesetting and a good eye for spelling and syntax errors.

I'm currently seeking full-time employment in the printing or publishing industries, but am open to individual freelance projects, big or small. If there's something I can do for you, please call me at 310 490 7799 or email me through my contact page.
